Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Washington, DC and Tysons Corner, VA team is looking for talented Transportation/Traffic Interns to join our Multimodal Operations & Engineering and Transportation Systems group. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a team of traffic engineers and transportation planners on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects across a broad range of markets, including municipal and state agencies, higher education, federal lands, and aviation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of professionals to develop traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of multimodal transportation projects
  • Develop signing, pavement marking, and traffic signal design plans in MicroStation
  • Develop traffic signal timing plans
  • Research best practices for traffic and transportation policy
  • Collect, tabulate, and analyze traffic data
  • Perform traffic engineering studies using Synchro, Vissim, and other analysis tools, including analyzing intersection and roadway levels of service and evaluating traffic improvement alternatives
  • Use and create geospatial transportation data for analysis and mapping
  • Perform quantity take-offs and prepare cost estimates
  • Perform field work, including taking measurements and photos and visually confirming transportation facility operations
  • Prepare clearly organized traffic safety and engineering reports, technical memoranda, and other written documents summarizing data, analyses, findings, and recommendations

  • Strong computer skills
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in civil engineering or related field
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation a plus
  • Experience with Synchro, Vissim, and/or HCS a plus
  • Experience with ArcGIS a plus

 

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Virginia/ Washington, D.C., is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
