ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Raleigh, NC office is seeking a Transportation Designer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.

VHB’s Transportation Design Team provides services for state DOTs and local municipalities. Typical projects include roadway widening, intersection design, interchange design, and bicycle and pedestrian design projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design transportation improvements for roadway, intersection, and interchange design; analyze/evaluate traffic improvements; support traffic/safety studies
  • Development of geometric layout, grading and drainage, utility coordination, and maintenance of traffic plans
  • Prepare roadway design plans per AASHTO, NCDOT, and local government design guidelines
  • Prepare pavement marking, signing, and maintenance of traffic plans per MUTCD and local standards
  • Prepare Engineering cost estimates and quantity calculations
  • Develop 3D Models of proposed roadway design
  • Conduct field reviews and document existing and as-built roadway conditions

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Ability to think critically
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excel in working in a team environment
  • Enthusiasm to learn and the ability to take responsibility
  • Experience using CAD software (MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD/Civil3D) is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 0-1 years of transportation design experience 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
