GIS Intern - Summer 2025

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s is looking for a talented Geographic Information Systems (GIS) intern to join our team. The qualified candidate will contribute across multiple project teams and provide a range of GIS services and data analysis relating to transportation, safety analysis and environmental projects.

Responsibilities

• Development, synthesis, management, and analysis of data
• GIS mapping production
• Editing geographic data
• Performing analyses and transformations on large datasets using Esri, Excel, or coding languages (Python, R, SQL, Arcade, etc.).

Skills and Attributes

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skill
• Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently with guidance
• Background experience working with Esri’s ArcGIS Pro and Online.
• Ability to perform basic GIS analysis and query operations
• Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite especially Excel
• Familiarity with coding and using Python, R, SQL, and/or Arcade expressions to automate repeated tasks

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing undergraduate or master’s degree in geography, cartography, planning, engineering, computer science, transportation, or a related field
• 2 years of completed coursework with related to GIS is preferred
• Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro and Online is preferred
