ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB, a firm with over 2,000 professionals that provides integrated environmental, transportation, and land development services from 32 locations along the eastern seaboard, is seeking an Environmental Science Intern to work in our new Winooski, VT office.
Responsibilities
- Assist with fieldwork throughout Vermont and neighboring states including GPS data collection; wetland delineations; habitat assessments; plant and wildlife surveys; ecological monitoring; measuring soil, groundwater, and surface water quality parameters; collecting soil and water samples.
- Data processing and analysis
- Assist in the preparation of local, state, and federal environmental permits for public and private-sector projects
- Writing and technical reporting
- Research and interpret environmental laws and regulations
- Gather and interpret required environmental project-related data
- Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work long hours outside in remote field locations, outside of normal business hours, and/or in adverse weather conditions
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with clients
- Self-motivated with attention to detail
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing undergraduate degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, or related field; or comparable experience.
- Successful completion of at least on introductory environmental sciences course with additional completion of environmental science related coursework desirable
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS preferred
- Valid driver's license. A personal vehicle not required.
Work Environment
- Frequent travel to locations with various weather conditions and terrains. Long hours of field work requiring ability to move (e.g., walk/ hike) and life equipment and supplied weighing up to 40 lbs.
