Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s South Burlington, VT office is looking for a talented Geographic Information Systems (GIS) intern to join our team. The qualified candidate will contribute across multiple project teams and provide a range of GIS services relating to transportation, safety analysis and environmental projects.

Responsibilities

  • Development, synthesis, management, and analysis of data
  • GIS mapping production
  • Editing geographic data
  • Assist with fieldwork, including wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and rare plant and wildlife surveys
  • Assist in the preparation of local, state, and federal environmental permits for public and private-sector projects
  • Writing and technical reporting
  • Research and interpret environmental laws and regulations
  • Gather and interpret required environmental project-related data
  • Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently with guidance
  • Background experience working with Esri’s ArcGIS Pro and Online.
  • Ability to perform basic GIS analysis and query operations
  • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite especially Excel
  • Ability to work long hours outside during adverse conditions

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing undergraduate or master’s degree in geography, cartography, planning, engineering, computer science, transportation, or a related field
  • 2 years of completed coursework with related to GIS is preferred
  • Experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro and Online is preferred
  • Must have the ability to conduct tasks independently
  • Valid driver's license
